Dedicated to the memory of John Callinan, 1939 - 2024

A place to share stories, photos and memories of Dad, Uncle, John.

John Callinan - Funeral

John's funeral will take place at St Columba's Roman Catholic church in Newington, Edinburgh on Tues 16th April at 12:00pm. This will be followed by his burial at Currie Kirk at 1:45pm.

There will also be a vigil at St Columba's the night before at 4:30pm (The casket will be closed.)

The burial will be followed by an informal reception at The Balerno Inn. Please RSVP with your dietary requirements.

Please note that the distance is about 7 miles (30 minutes drive with traffic) between St Columba's and Currie Kirk. There is very limited parking near both venues. Sharing cars or taxis is advised to travel between the church and the cemetery. There is a frequent bus service 44 returning to the city centre from Currie and Balerno and it's easy to get a taxi too.

If you are planning to come to the funeral reception, please let Daniel or Catherine know so we can confirm numbers for the funeral tea with the Balerno Inn. Please can you also let us know any dietary requirements as much in advance as possible as the food is prepared especially.

Dad was always generous towards charities and supported a wide variety including Save the Children, Amnesty, Water Aid, MSF, Syria, African sight charities. He said "there are plenty of good ones". He also supported cleft palate charities as he was moved by a little girl with one when Daniel was in hospital as a young child. If you'd like to make a donation in his memory, there are some links to major charities below but he would equally appreciate a donation to any worthy cause.
